At CG Protege, we stay true to our core belief of nurturing world class talents by conducting regular masterclass programs with renowed animation industry experts and partnerships with top animation schools internationally. We have had animation veterans from animation studios like Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc and teachers from schools like CalArts and Gobelins, l'école de l'image (School of the Image) from Paris, coming in to CG Protege to upgrade our students and alumni's skillsets.

Mike Yamada Visual Composition Masterclass 2016

Mike Yamada is a multidisciplinary problem solver with 12 years of experience across film, animated movies, games, and themed spaces. He is a Production Designer at Walt Disney Animation and the illustrator of eight children’s books. At Disney Animation for 4 years. He has worked on Big Hero 6, the upcoming Moana and the accompanying short Inner Workings. Before working at Disney, he was working at DreamWorks Animation for nearly 10 years. At DreamWorks, he has worked on How to Train Your Dragon & Kung Fu Panda-2.

Mike has spoken and taught at some of the biggest colleges, design firms and animation studios, including Art Centre College of Design, Continuum, Disney Interactive, and many more.

He currently resides in Los Angeles with his cat. In his spare time, he enjoys the challenge of brewing the perfect cup of coffee, reading, and writing about himself in the third person.



Pascal Campion Masterclass 2015

Pascal Campion graduated from the School of the Arts decoratifs de Strasbourg, France, in summer of 2000. He moved to the US in the winter that year to start his career in animation. Since then, he has held many postitions, from animator to animation director, designer, background artist, storyboard artist and visual development artist. His projects include children books, music videos, commercials, TV shows and feature animated movies. Working as a freelance artist since 2007, his list of clients includes Disney Feature, Dreamworks Animation, Paramount Pictures, Nic Jr, and many others.



Creature Design and Development with Dominic Qwek Masterclass 2014

Dominic Qwek is a creature and character artist with over 10 years of working experience in the CG industry. He started his career as a 3d generalist for advertising before moving into the games industry. He has contributed to triple A titles such as the Starcraft II franchise, Diablo III and Killzone 2. He currently works at Blizzard Entertainment as a senior cinematic artist where he helps create visually stunning cinematics that Blizzard is known for.

Glenn Vilppu Masterclass 2014

Glenn Vilppu received his Bachelor of Fine Art and Masters of Fine Art from Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California. He also taught there for 13 years, beginning before he graduated. He has had more than 14 solo exhibitions of his work, worked in the Animation industry for 20 years, doing storyboards, workbook drawings, loayout and posing animation. He has worked and taught at Walt Disney Studios, Warner Brothers, Fox and other animation and game studios. During his employment with Walt Disney Studio, Walt Disney sent him around the world to teach at their studios in Toronto, Vancouver, Paris, Sydney, Manila and Tokyo. He is invited to conduct seminars and workshops at universities and studios worldwide.



Concept Art Master Lecture and Masterclass 2013

Arthur Fong's first professional gig was in high school where he illustrated portraits for families. He attended Art Center College of Design with no clear direction of where he wanted his career to go, but with a huge passion for art. This allowed him to explore all the possibilities in illustration, transportation design, and finally choosing to focus on the Entertainment Design Major. A year before graduation, he was accepted to the art internship program at Blue Sky Studios where he was a temporary designer for the movie "Rio". He returned to school after three months and adapted his knowledge of the animation industry into his final projects for senior year. He started at DreamWorks Animation immediately after graduating in 2010 and has been there since then.

Tom Zhao took his first step into the concept art world in 2007 when he decided to stop pursuing a career in medicine at the University of Virginia in order to chase his dream of becoming a concept artist. Determined that he had found his true calling, he moved across the country to attend The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where he learned as much as he cound from many wonderful teachers. After four years of grueling all-nighters and hard work, he graduated with Honors in Entertainment Design in 2011. Following an internship at Disney Consumer Products, he joined the talented team at Blur Studio where he currently contributes to various games, films, and animation as a conceptual designer.



The Gobelins Animation Master Class 2013

Paul Chung is a highly experienced animation director with 30 years of experience in the USA and in Great Britain. He started his career in traditional 2D animation and worked on the Academy Award winner “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and on “Space Jam”. He joined DreamWorks in 1999 as directing animator, and was nominated for an Annie Award in 2001 for the category “Outstanding Individual Achievement for Character Animation” for his work on “Shrek”. Since 2011, Paul is once again based in Great Britain.

Jean-Claude Tran is a 2D and 3D animator who has been with both Disney and Pixar since he graduated from the GOBELINS school in 1996. At the Walt Disney Feature Animation studio in Paris, France, he worked as a 2D animator on films such as Tarzan with mentor Glen Keane as well as The Emperor’s New Groove and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. During that time, he also taught 2D character animation at GOBELINS. At the Florida studio of WDFA was animator on Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear . Since 2004, he has been a 3D animator at Pixar on such films as Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, and Brave.

Myrna Gawryn, coming from a background in dance, choreography, theater, film, TV, human behavior/anthropology, anatomy, kinesiology, and motion capture, has worked with animators and directors to develop character, physical behavior, relationship to other characters, context and anatomical detail, all the components that make animation truly alive and specific. She has taught and consulted in the area of character development/behavior, storytelling and movement for animation at DreamWorks and Disney in Los Angeles, Gobelins and Annecy in France, LucasFilms in Singapore, Griffith University in Australia and The One University in Kuala Lumpur.



2D for Visual Effects and 3D Layout for Visual Effects 2012

CG Protege's past two courses - 2D for Visual Effects and 3D Layout for Visual Effects are specially designed to prepare students to enter the Visual Effects Industry as either 2D or 3D artists. The course equiped students with the core skills needed to produce high quality Visual Effects. Students undergo an intensice 16 weel program (part-time) designed to help them produce a portfolio which can be used for an interview with Lucasfilm Singapore for Jedi Masters Program track in 2D and 3D Visual Effects. The CG Protege courses instructed by Industrial Light & Magic artists alongside CG Protege Animation School's experienced in-house trainers.



The Gobelins Animation Master Class 2012

Magali Rigaudias has been working in character animation for over 20 years. After working in Paris for a few years, she joined Industrial Light and Magic where she focused on special effects and animation in live action feature films including Dragon Heart, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (re-release), Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secret, The Hulk, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. After almost a decade at the studio in San Francisco, she decided to broaden her experience to work on animated films. She moved to Australia and joined Animal Logic to work on Happy Feet and The Legend of the Guardians. Magali has been working as a lead animator for the past 7 years, including on Happy Feet 2.

Yoshimichi Tamura is a 2D-3D character animator, character designer, and story boarder. After graduating from GOBELINS in 1991, Yoshi worked on a number of major animation feature films for both Disney and DreamWorks, including; A Goofy Movie (1995), Hercules (1997), Tarzan (1999), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), The Jungle Book 2 (2003), Sinbad: Legend of The Seven Seas (2003), A Shark Tale (2004), Over The Hedge (2006), Flushed Away (2006), and The Princess and The Frog (2009). Yoshi has also participated in other international productions, such as the Spanish-French feature film NOCTURNA (2006) and the French-American production IGOR (2008). Now based in France, Yoshi was recently director of animation on the 2D French animation feature film Zarafa released this year. Yoshi will focus on the theme “Motion and Emotion” but also evaluate and mentor students working on the exercises begun in the master class of Magali Rigaudias during week one. *Yoshimichi won the Best in Show Award at the upcoming SigGraph 2012.

DSK Supinfocom and CG Protege presents Masterclass in Lighting Design with Mael Francois (Lighting Technical Director, Pixar Animation Studios) 2012

A Supinfocom France graduate, Mael Francois is currently Lighting Technical Director at Pixar Animation Studios, USA. Before joining Pixar, he worked for studios such as Framestore CFC (UK), Spark FX (France) and Attitude Studio (France). Some of his work includes credits on Cars2, Toy Story 3, Where the Wild Things are and The Tale of Despereaux.



WSQ Games Modeling and Sculpting

Maurizio Memoli started his career as a CG Generalist in Italy, working for local movie productions. In 2004, he joined Eurocom where he worked as a Character Modeler on the PS2 game Batman Begins, producted by EA. In 2005, he joined EA Montreal as a Senior Character Artist. He worked with Rodrigue Pralier on the design of the main Characters for the next-gen game titled Army of Two. In 2007, he moved to New Zealand to work for Weta Digital as a facial Modeler on James Cameron's Avatar. Maurizio is currently working for Lucas Films Singapore as a Senior Character Modeler on its new feature film.



CG Protege & Double Negative Industry Placement Program

This is the program where both CG Protege and Double Negative staff co-train and prepare a pool of talents to work for Double Negative feature film projects. Our lecturers are attached to Double Negative for 4 days of training. This is to ensure what we are training is close to what Double Negative requires when the student graduates.

The Gobelins Character Animation Masterclass

Animators from PIXAR and Animation Mentor (Previous ex students of Gobelins) and an experienced Acting Lecturer from Gobelins were flown in to conduct this special class for our students. Lecturers for this special masterclass include:

Michelle Meeker - Animation Mentor. Graduating in 1996 from California Institute of the Arts, California, with a MFA in Character Animation, Michelle Meeker joined the crew at Pixar Animation Studios, USA, where she animated on Geris Game and A Bugs Life; then moved on to PDI/Dreamworks, USA, as lead animator on Shrek and Antz and then on to Weta Digital in New Zealand to work on Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. After returning to the US, Michelle did some freelance work for a while, before taking a job as Senior Animator/Lead Cinematics Animator at Stormfront Studios in San Rafael, and then in 2005 she became a full-time instructor on Animation Mentor; a position she still holds while teaching at various animation schools around the world including Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark, and GOBELINS, lécole de limage in Paris, France.

Robert Bennet Masterclass

Robert Bennett first taught at GOBELINS, l’école de l’image in 1994, collaborating on an exercise of Performance walk cycle. Since then, he has worked around Europe and in the USA presenting a course in Corporeal Acting for different animation schools and studios, including Walt Disney Feature Film France, Warner Brothers Feature Film USA and A-Studio in Copenhagen. He has also given classes for Richard Williams’ Workshop. His master class focuses on acting for animators, using body language to express emotions and move the story forward.



Hans Bacher Masterclass

Hans Bacher has been working in the animation film business for the last 30 years. First in Germany in his own studio, later on major Disney movies like who framed roger rabbit, beauty and the beast, lion king, aladdin, hercules, fantasia 2000 and mulan, as well as spielberg's balto. He has won several awards for his design work, amongst them the annie-award for mulan. Born in Germany he spent many years in London, Paris, Duesseldorf and Los Angeles. Now he lives in Manila and enjoys the islands and traveling through the far east. He was teaching animation in Germany for 15 years, during the last years he is giving lectures and workshops about film-design in major studios and universities in Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore and the Philippines. So far he has published 2 books - 'brush-design for photoshop' and 'DREAM WORLDS, production design in animation'. http://one1more2time3.wordpress.com/
