Eddy Wong (Class of 2007)
"On my own, I doubt I could have gotten very far even with all the luck in the world. I know now that the $2000 I spent and the 6 months work I put in is worth every penny and every second. It bought me my dream and I am enjoying it now, happy that I got what many people are still struggling to achieve. You showed me what needs to be done and how it should be done to get the job. You opened my eyes and told me how high the bar is and how to reach it. Without all this, the dream would have never become a reality.

Thanks to your team of dedicated lecturers & mentorship, all of this is now made possible. And now I'm finally in the field of my dreams at Mikoishi, a games company, and you have no idea how happy I am! Rest assured that I will continue to work hard and stay in this industry, as long as the industry continues to grow. There's so much to learn in this field, so many areas to grow in and so much I can do. The only limitation is my imagination and my effort. But for now I am truly 'living the dream'. Thank you so very much."

Joyce Yeo (Class of 2007)
"Taking this course has been an awesome experience for me. Since I graduated from school in 2004, I couldn’t get a job in the animation field for 3yrs. I had no confidence in my animation clips when compared to other people and this caused me to give up the animation industry for 2 years. I’ve learnt more about animation during the 6 months course than in the 3 yrs at my former school.

The mentors are really very patient, helpful and passionate. I was given thorough critiques and a lot of encouragement from them. They always have the time to answer my many questions and help me solve my doubts. The mentors & lecturers really give a lot of encouragement to all of us and treat us like their extended family. They are always approachable and very eager to help, updating us on news of the animation industry and trying to explain how the industry works. I can feel the passion for this industry and the concern for us students.

And now, because of this course, my hard work paid off and I was offered a job with Imagi Studios Hong Kong. It was a big stepping stone for me as an animator and I really appreciate the help my mentors had given me. Thanks for making my dream come true."

Judy Chua (Class of 2007)
"The half a year course really helped me a lot. I have benefited a lot from it. I have previously no experience in animation at all. I have been interested in animation ever since I was 17 years old but I couldn't take up the course due to family reasons. After I graduated from Ngee Ann Poly from Civil Engineering, I was still very interested in animation.

Thus I went to check all the courses that there were available, and every course is at least 3 years or full-time, so couldn't take up animation as financially I'm very tight. So this course was actually the key to open the industry for me, as I could finally take up the course part-time and it costs only 2K with government subsidies. After half a year of this course, I managed to get a job at Real U games company as animator. Thank you!"

Chua Han Xiang (Class of 2007)
"Participating in this 6 months animation course was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. The experience there was a very positive one and I really learnt a lot from all the patient lecturers. After graduating from another 3 year course and finishing my national service, I realized that the demo reel that I produced in school was not sufficient enough to get me into an animation related job in this local industry.

I was lucky enough to be enrolled into this 6 month course to further improve my animation skill. The course has helped me better understand and brush up my 3D animation and life drawing skills. I am now more confident in the animation I did, compared to those before I went for NS.

I always wanted to get into a 3D animation company to do a movie or animated series. With the reel that I produced in this 6 months course, I am now offered a place as an animator trainee in Imagi Hong Kong – a 3D animation movie company that produced TMNT the movie.

The lecturers were very supportive and easily approachable, accommodating the students even in their tight schedules. I'm really glad that I took this course and I'm very grateful for all the help that they have given me in making me a better 3D animator."

Ellen Erikson (Class of 2006)
"The program has been a great help for me in acquiring the right skills to become an animator. As the program was taught by industry professionals, the syllabus was tailor made for the industry's requirements. This helped me in gaining the necessary knowledge to enter into the industry, after completing the program. This was also the main reason why I chose to apply for this program.

Before attending the program I had completed other programs and university degrees. As these other programs did not focus enough on the industry requirements, I found it hard to get into the animation industry after completing the programs. While working in an engineering company, I started attending animation seminars and talks to gain more knowledge and experience in animation. I also continued to self train, but I found it hard without proper guidance. Therefore I was very happy when I hear about the program, as I knew this was the right program for me."

Patrick Woo KY (Class of 2006)
"Being in the CG industry for 7 years before I took up the course, I had background knowledge of 3D, but many things were self taught and limited. I wanted to upgrade myself, and make myself more marketable to match the demanding standards required by the industry. I attended some part-time 3D courses, and they taught me some useful techniques in general areas. From those courses, I ended up with some team projects where I was doing a little bit of everything in every area. With that I got myself in an animation production as an animator. Even though I was learning animation from my job, I still wanted to learn and explore other areas that could challenge my other areas of skills in CG.

Through a student of mine, I heard about the course, and I decided to further upgrade myself, and to learn from their trainers. The course is very special. Firstly, it is focused. It is focused on one thing – to prepare the individual to get into the job market. Students are taken on the journey to prepare their demo reel, which is the passport to employment in this industry. The trainers show us the dos and don'ts, tips and tricks of building up our reels. At the end of the course, students end up with a credible demo reel that is of industry standard, and showcases the strength of the student to potential employers. Through preparing this demo reel, the student learns and improves his standard of work to industry standard.

Many graduates from diploma, part-time and degree CG courses, even though they have demo reels when they graduate, their reels are very often group projects, where they contribute in several areas. However, many of these people do not have specialised reels, showing what they are strong at, individually. Even personal reels are filled with works from many different areas of the 3D production process. Many of these students do not know how to do a personal demo reel that is specialised enough to sell their strongest skills.

I believe the course fills up an important gap from between the classroom knowledge and the workplace, hitting the ground running. Through being focused, and guiding students to choose a single area that they want to specialise in, the course has helped many students develop their first professional demo reel, achieving a standard that meets employers' expectations.

Secondly, the course strives to instill an artistic sense of the students and try to sharpen and improve that art sense. Other academic courses prepare the individual by teaching techniques alone, but very few courses also help to impart the aesthetic sense, exposing the students to what is aesthetically pleasing, and equips the individual with the necessary directions to continue to strive for aesthetic excellence on his own, after the course.

Thirdly, it teaches the students to understand the problem solving process. The trainers will explain the rationale behind guidelines and principles. This equips the students with the knowledge and skills to tackle future problems in a sensible and systematic manner, while not compromising on aesthetic requirements.

Lastly and very importantly, the team of trainers is very passionately dedicated in their vision to produce highly skilled CG artists. They are ever willing to help students solve their problems, and to provide constructive advice for the students. Many of them go out of their way to acquire reference materials and make it available to the students to further guide their aesthetic sense and to help the students along their journey towards skilled competency. When I was in the course, I could feel their very personal guidance and genuine concern for my progress. They are always asking about the progress of my progress, and told me to ask if I had problems.

The number of graduated students from this course, who are taken up into the industry, is proof of the effectiveness of the course. Preparing my demo reel with the help and guidance of the course instructors has landed me a job after graduation, as well as an EDB sponsored training program to UK VFX House – Double Negative for a year.

CG is a new industry that people are finally starting to seriously consider as a career option. After the course I came into contact with more passionate people from other professions who intend to switch to CG as their new career. My first recommendation to them would be this specialist course. I believe in the effective teaching methods and the high standards of work that the course continues to uphold, and I know the students will be in the good hands of dedicated and equally passionate trainers."

Lee CJ (Class of 2006)
"Before attending the program, I was just a guy dreaming big on working with 3D (CG). I was working as a graphic designer in a place where the right paper qualifications will probably land you the job, a job that doesn’t expose you to the market standard that escalates everyday in this multimedia industry. 3D was my favorite during my poly years, but the limited lessons and wrong lecturer restricted my development in this area. Students from this course have no specialized skills and proper portfolio to land a job in this competitive industry that seriously judge someone by the portfolio, not the paper qualification. In the mist of wandering, losing motivation and close to giving up on the dream, the trainers for this course have shown us the way.

The program is a 6 months intensive learning course that trains the student in specialized area and to finally prepare them for the market. Every lecturer is an industrial veteran who has the proper qualification and experience to guide the students in the correct direction. But what impressed me is their dedication in teaching, the willingness to impart all their skills to you and the amount of motivation they give us even until now. They are more of a mentor than a lecturer, always giving advice and not restricting the students to follow exactly what they preach. They are like holding onto the end of the thread that allows the kite to soar and explore whatever possibilities, without the kite fearing as it knows someone will be there to put it on the correct track when necessary. With this, they have formed the right spirit in the classroom, where everyone learns from one another as the process of learning and improving is more significant than being the best in class. A very cohesive environment where good friendships are forged, with everyone having a common goal - that we can make a difference in this industry together. This always reminds me of the beauty of teamwork, and to believe in yourself and people around you that we can make it. I can’t thank them enough for their guidance.

Today, I am equipped with the correct skills and proper portfolio which I can proudly walk into any CG company with confidence. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of this course. Now even that I have landed myself in a dream job, working with family-like comrades, I never fail to remind myself not to take this for granted. The trainers and mentors in this course have sacrificed their time to make what I am today, hopefully someday I can do the same to someone who is just a guy dreaming big on working with CG, with the correct passion."
